Privacy Policy for Text Replacer Chrome Extension
This Privacy Policy describes how the "Text Replacer" Chrome Extension ("Extension") collects, uses, and
discloses information when you use our Extension. We are committed to protecting your privacy and
handling your data with transparency.
1. Information We Collect
The Extension collects the following types of information:
- User-Provided Data: This includes text replacement rules, patterns, and associated
settings that you create and save within the Extension. This data is explicitly provided by you to
enable the core functionality of the Extension.
- Firebase Usage Data: If you choose to enable multi-device synchronization, your
text replacement rules and associated settings will be stored in Firebase, a platform provided by
Google. Firebase may collect certain usage data (e.g., number of reads/writes, data storage size)
necessary for its operation and billing. This data is handled according to Google's Firebase Privacy and
Security policies.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information solely for the following purposes:
- To provide and maintain the core functionality of the Text Replacer Extension, allowing you to
define and apply text replacement rules.
- To enable multi-device synchronization of your text replacement rules via Firebase, if you opt-in to
this feature.
- To improve the Extension's performance and user experience based on aggregated, anonymized usage
patterns (not linked to identifiable individuals).
3. Data Storage and Permissions
The Extension stores your text replacement rules and settings in two ways:
- Local Storage: By default, your data is stored locally within your Chrome browser's
extension storage. This data is not transmitted to our servers or any third parties.
- Firebase Storage (Optional): If you enable multi-device synchronization, your data
will be securely stored in a Firebase Realtime Database or Cloud Firestore instance. This allows
your replacement rules to be accessible across multiple devices where you are logged in with the
same Firebase account. Firebase is a secure and reliable platform provided by Google.
The Extension requests the following permissions:
- "storage" permission: This permission is required to store your text replacement
rules and settings locally within your browser and to interact with Firebase for optional cloud
synchronization.
- "activeTab" permission: This permission is used to apply text replacements only on
the currently active tab when the extension is explicitly invoked by the user. It does not grant
access to your browsing history or data on other tabs.
- "host permissions" (e.g., ): This permission is necessary for the
Extension to read and modify content on web pages where you intend to apply text replacements. The
Extension only interacts with the content of pages when explicitly activated by the user or when a
defined replacement rule matches content on a page. We do not collect or transmit any browsing data
from these pages.
4. Data Sharing and Disclosure
We do not sell, trade, or otherwise transfer your personally identifiable information to outside parties.
Your text replacement rules are either stored locally on your device or, if you opt-in, securely on
Firebase. We do not have direct access to your specific replacement rules unless you explicitly share
them with us for support purposes.
We may disclose information if required to do so by law or in the good faith belief that such action is
necessary to comply with legal obligations, protect our rights or property, or ensure the safety of our
users.
5. Data Security
We implement reasonable security measures to protect the information collected through the Extension. For
data stored locally, Chrome's built-in security features provide protection. For data stored on
Firebase, Google's robust security infrastructure and practices are utilized to protect your data.
6. Children's Privacy
Our Extension is not intended for use by children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect
personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe
that your child has provided us with personal information, please contact us, and we will take steps to
remove that information from our systems.
7. Changes to This Privacy Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new
Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last updated" date. You are advised to review this Privacy
Policy periodically for any changes.
